June, 6th, 2014, a senior government delegation of 8 from Ethiopia, headed by Mr. Alemayehu Getachew Mengistie, state minister, ministry of Transportation, member of the board of ERC, Mr. Woldemichael Wondwossen Kiflu and Mr. Mekuria Getachew Betru, EEO of ERC paid a 2-day visit to our college.
The two parties had the first official meeting at 9：30, June, 7th. Ms. Chen Tengbo, vice director of the International Exchange Section of Tianjin Education Committee, Mr. Lee Wei, vice director from Tianjin Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Mr. Wangyan, general manager assistant of Ethiopian Branch Office of CCECC, the members of the college management and some faculty members from the college attended the meeting.
Mr. Hu, the Party Secretary of the college, first extended warmest welcome in his speech to the delegation on behalf of the college management, and then gave a general description of the college and a brief on overseas training. He also expressed his expectation that this visit should take our communication and trust with ERC to another level and set up a good foundation for further cooperation. Vice president, Mr. Zhang Qikun, made a detailed presentation regarding the history of the college, the frame structure of the college management, education offered, teaching faculty and practical bases. The introduction was well received by the delegation.
After the meeting, the delegation had a tour around the college. They were shown to the on-campus practice sites and labs for optical fiber, cable, SPC, simulation driving system for electrical locomotive, etc. The delegation was quite impressed with the introductions from the teachers, the follow-up discussions and the overall operation of the college. The two parties will have more discussions on co-establishment of Ethiopian Railway Academy and long-term cooperation.
With the experiences of 64 years operation of the college and fame created by the 100,000 graduates, and the strength as Railway Whampoa, we have every reason to believe that Tianjin Vocational and Technical college will accomplish more in overseas training, and contribute more to the win-win cooperation between Ethiopia and China.
